Sourcing from Zimbabwe & South Africa

Home/About Us

Who we are

An exporter built around six crops and two origins.

Kleanex (Pty) Ltd, trading as Procitru, is a South African fresh produce export business based in Johannesburg. We buy from selected growers in Zimbabwe and South Africa, pack to the buyer’s specification, and take responsibility for the fruit all the way from the pack house to the vessel or the aircraft.

The company

Small team, short chain, no surprises

Kleanex was registered in South Africa in 2023 and works as a hands-on exporter rather than a trading desk. The same people who agree the price with the grower are the ones who check the pallets before they load, which is the only reliable way we have found to keep quality claims honest.

Southern Africa sits counter-seasonal to Europe, the UK and much of Asia, and only a few hours by air from the Gulf. That geography is the business: we can put fruit into a market at the point in the year when local supply has finished, at a quality that holds up on arrival.

We work with importers, wholesale market agents, retail programme buyers and processors. For buyers new to the region, we will walk through market access, documentation and realistic landed costs before anyone commits to a container.

  • Freight booking Airline space or reefer container bookings, consolidation and routing.
  • Arrival follow-up Condition reports on landing and a plan for anything that falls short.
Produce lines

The six lines we export

Varieties, seasons and pack formats below are the standards we work to. Everything is adjustable — tell us your counts, punnet sizes, labels and pallet configuration and we will quote against them.

Blueberries

Our flagship line. Grown on highveld farms in Zimbabwe and in South Africa’s cooler production regions, where cold nights give the fruit firmness and sugar. Picked for size, bloom and brix, then pre-cooled quickly because berries are unforgiving about delay. Supplied as retail-ready punnets, bulk for repacking, or frozen on request.

Varieties
Ventura, Twilight, Suziblue and similar southern highbush
Season
July to November (peak August–October)
Pack formats
125g and 150g punnets, 12 per carton; 1.5kg bulk punnets
Freight
Air freight; sea freight for selected varieties

Strawberries

Tunnel-grown and open-field fruit, harvested to an agreed colour and size spec and into the cold chain within hours of picking. Strawberries are the line where cold chain discipline shows up most clearly on arrival, so we hold these consignments to the tightest temperature and transit windows of anything we ship.

Varieties
Festival, Albion and comparable day-neutral types
Season
August to December, with shoulder volumes from tunnels
Pack formats
250g and 500g punnets; 8 or 10 punnets per carton
Freight
Air freight only

Litchis

A short, intense season over the Southern Hemisphere summer, landing straight into Northern Hemisphere winter demand and the festive trade. We offer sulphur-treated fruit for markets that accept it and untreated fruit where they do not — tell us the destination and we will confirm which protocol applies before you order.

Varieties
Mauritius, McLean’s Red
Season
November to January (peak December)
Pack formats
2kg and 5kg cartons; punnets and clusters on request
Freight
Air freight; reefer sea freight for larger programmes

Kiwis

A smaller, specialist line from cooler high-altitude blocks. Green-flesh fruit is harvested on dry matter and firmness, then held in controlled storage so we can release it over a longer window rather than all at once. Graded by count and pressure-tested before dispatch.

Varieties
Hayward (green flesh)
Season
April to June, with stored fruit into July
Pack formats
3.5kg single-layer trays, counts 25–39; 10kg bulk cartons
Freight
Reefer sea freight

Passion Fruit

Purple granadilla with deep skin colour and a high pulp-to-shell ratio, which is what juice and dessert buyers are actually paying for. The long harvest window makes this one of the easier lines to run as a standing weekly programme rather than season-by-season.

Varieties
Purple granadilla (Passiflora edulis)
Season
February to August (peak March–June)
Pack formats
2kg and 4kg cartons, loose or tray-packed; bulk for pulping
Freight
Air freight and reefer sea freight

Avocados

Our highest-volume sea freight line. Fruit is dry-matter tested before picking so it ripens properly at destination instead of arriving rubbery or already soft, then shipped in reefer containers under a recorded regime. Hass for the main programme, with Fuerte and Pinkerton filling the early and late windows.

Varieties
Hass, Fuerte, Pinkerton
Season
March to October (Hass peak April–August)
Pack formats
4kg cartons, counts 14–30; 10kg bulk cartons
Freight
Reefer sea freight; air freight for early-season volumes
Quality & compliance

What we check before anything loads

Fresh produce is bought on trust and settled on arrival condition. These are the controls that keep both sides of that honest.

Grower standards

We source from farms that can meet the certification your market requires, including GLOBALG.A.P. where it is a condition of entry.

Export documentation

Phytosanitary certificates, certificates of origin, packing lists, commercial invoices and inspection certificates, prepared per consignment.

Cold chain records

Pre-cooling confirmed before loading, set points agreed in writing, and temperature records available for each shipment.

Traceability

Every carton traces back to the farm, the orchard block and the pack date, so a query can be answered instead of argued about.

Pre-shipment QC

Counts, sizing, defect tolerance, brix or dry matter checked against the agreed spec, with photographs sent before dispatch.

Regulatory inspection

South African consignments are presented for PPECB inspection; Zimbabwean fruit is cleared through the national plant quarantine service.

How we trade

Three commitments we hold to

01

We quote what we can actually ship

If the volume is not secured with a grower, we say so. An over-promised programme costs a buyer far more than a smaller confirmed one.

02

Quality is agreed before packing

Spec sheets, counts and tolerances are written down at the quote stage, not interpreted after the fruit has landed.

03

Problems get a straight answer

If a consignment arrives short of spec, you get the pack house records, the temperature data and a resolution — not silence.

Next step

Let us quote your next programme.

Send the produce line, the volume per week, the destination port or airport and your preferred Incoterms. We will come back with availability and a written offer.
